This is the 2011 list of Medicare premium, Medicare deductible, and Medicare coinsurance rates. All of these Medicare rates will be effective in 2011.
Medicare Premiums for 2011
Medicare Part A – Hospital Insurance Coverage:
- Individuals who have 40 or more quarters of Medicare-covered employment by themselves, or their spouse do not need to pay a premium.
- For those with 30-39 quarters of Medicare covered employment your Medicare Part A premium is $248.00 per month.
- If you’re not otherwise eligible for the premium-free hospital insurance and have less than 30 quarters of Medicare-covered emplyment your Medicare Part A premium will be $450.00.
Medicare Part B – Medical Insurance Coverage:
The Medicare Part B premium will continue to be $96.40 or $110.50 for most beneficiaries during 2011. Medicare receiving beneficiaries who have the Social Security Administration withold their Part B premium and have incomes of less than $85,000 or $170,000 for joint filers will not have an increase in the Medicare Part B premium for 2011.
For all others the Medicare Part B monthly premium will be $115.40 in 2011, a 4.4% increase over 2011 rates. This premium is increasing due to the costs of Part B increasing. If your income is above $85,000 for a single, or $170,000 for a married couple, then you will see your Medicare Part B premium be higher than the $115.40 per month.
Medicare Deductibles and Coinsurance Amounts for 2011
Medicare Part A: Medicare part A pays for inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, and some other healthcare benefits. For each benefit period Medicare will pay all covered costs except the Medicare Part A deductible during the first 60 days (In 2011 the Medicare Part A deductible is $1,132), and coinsurance amounts for hospital stays that last between 60 days and no more than 150 days.
You will pay the following for each Medicare Benefit period:
- Hospital Stays of 1-60 days, you pay: $1,132.
- Hospital Stays for days 61-90, you pay: $283 per day till the 90th day.
- Hospital stays for days 91-150, you pay: $566 per day upto the 150th day.
- For all days over 150, you will pay 100% of costs associated with each day.
Skilled Nursing Facility Coinsurance:
You will pay $141.50 per day for days 21-100 of each benefit period.
Medicare Part B: This coveres Medicare eligible physician services, durable medical equipment, outpatient hospital services, and some home health services.
You will pay a yearly deductible of $162 for Medicare Part B. You will also pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for services after you meet your deductible.
